A special celebration to officially open the Peter Sawatzky Sculpture Park at Brandon Riverbank will be held Thursday, October 9, at 2:00 pm.
Brandon Riverbank Inc. says the “public art space showcases the life’s work of Peter Sawatzky, an internationally renowned bronze sculptor from Glenboro, Manitoba. Known for his dynamic portrayals of Canadian wildlife, Sawatzky’s sculptures bring to life the spirit, strength, and beauty of the natural world.”
“To become a true wildlife artist, one must spend the time outdoors studying and photographing wildlife within their environment,” said Sawatzky. “It is only here that you will get to really understand your subject. Work from life as nature never lies and there is no A.I.”

This year has seen the installation of four of Sawatzky’s sculptures, making for six of a planned 16 pieces to be placed across Riverbank’s grounds. Centered by the iconic Caribou Gateway Plaza, Brandon Riverbank Inc. says it’s proud to be launching what will become an internationally recognized artistic, cultural and environmental destination.
“This project has been ten years in the making and we at Brandon Riverbank are thrilled to see it coming to life,” said Brandon Riverbank Executive Director, Dean Hammond. “Having Peter’s works on our grounds will no doubt transform Brandon Riverbank into a destination which rivals the best outdoor public spaces in Canada, a space that our community can be extremely proud of.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm, and Sawatzky will be in attendance.
