A 29-year-old man from Valley River faces seven charges, including assault with a weapon, after an alleged road rage incident in Dauphin early this morning.
According to Dauphin RCMP, they got a call at about 12:45 AM of a vehicle chasing another vehicle, with the driver of one vehicle brandishing a knife. Police found the first vehicle on Mountain Avenue and spoke to the 22-year-old driver.
Police said this driver told them the incident began in a parking lot of a business after someone with a knife confronted him. When the 22-year-old tried to flee, the other driver followed him at a high rate of speed. The victim and suspect were not known to each other but the victim was, according to police, able to provide a description of the vehicle.
Dauphin RCMP said they found the vehicle at the intersection of Railway Avenue and Buchanon Avenue. They told the driver to exit the vehicle and asked him questions about the other occupants, but said the suspect was uncooperative about those questions and that there was a heavy tint on the window. Two women, both from Valley River First Nation, exited the vehicle eventually and were later released without charge.
Police initially arrested all three and searched the vehicle. In their release, police said they seized a small amount of cocaine and a knife.
Dylan Smith, 29, from Valley River, was charged with fail to comply with release order, flight from police, operation while impaired, operation while over 80mg%, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon, and possession of weapon for dangerous purposes. None of the charges have been tested in court.
RCMP continue to investigate.
