A 47-year-old man who already had two arrest warrants now faces new charges, including resisting arrest, after Portage la Prairie RCMP arrested him earlier this week.
According to police, on October 8 Portage RCMP obtained an entry warrant for a residence in Portage la Prairie to arrest a man with two outstanding warrants. Because they believed the man had firearms, they called in the Emergency Response Team.
“ERT officers entered the residence, after deploying tear gas, and located the male inside,” said RCMP in a release. “He resisted arrest and, with the use of a Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser), was taken into custody without further incident.”
The ERT wasn’t done, however. Later that same evening, at 10:00 PM, Fisher Branch RCMP attempted to arrest a male for several outstanding warrants in Fisher River. According to police, the man barricaded himself inside his residence and was believed to be in possession of a firearm.
The next morning, October 9, ERT officers acted on another entry warrant and entered the property. They arrested a 31-year-old man without incident.
