The governments of Canada, Manitoba and the City of Brandon have announced a partnership to support local businesses through the Grow Brandon initiative.
The federal Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, Eleanor Olszewski, provincial Minister of Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation, Jamie Moses and city of Brandon mayor, Jeff Fawcett jointly made the announcement today at a Brandon Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Victoria Inn.
Minister Olszewski said “The Grow Brandon initiative exemplifies that Prairie spirit, bringing together local leaders and businesses to build a more resilient and inclusive economy in our region. That’s why our new government, through PrairiesCan, is providing $300,000 over three years to support this important work— strengthening regional capacity, expanding local opportunities, and helping Brandon thrive for generations to come.”
Grow Brandon will also receive $150,000 from the Manitoba government and $125,000 from the City of Brandon. The funds will be used to bring together representatives from all levels of government, academic institutions, Indigenous organizations, and the private sector to establish annual economic summits to showcase the Brandon area as a business destination of choice and develop sector-specific initiatives to attract new investments to the region.
“Westman is a vital engine of Manitoba’s economy, and we’re committed to unlocking its full potential,” said Minister Moses. “It’s exciting to see government, business, and academic institutions working together to drive innovation, attract investment, and create new opportunities for growth across the region.”
Brandon Mayor Jeff Fawcett offered “a big thank you to The Government of Canada and Province of Manitoba for joining us and supporting Brandon’s growth. We’re excited to keep working together through Grow Brandon to build a stronger local economy, support our businesses, and create new opportunities for our community.”
“Alignment and collaboration are critical for supporting economic development,” added Mark Frison, Chair of Grow Brandon. “With support from our government partners, we’re bringing people together to drive investment toward a common vision of growth and prosperity for the region.”
