A 27-year-old man faces a laundry list of charges after an arrest south of Dauphin that took multiple RCMP detachments, drones, and police service dogs on Thursday, October 30.
According to a release from Manitoba RCMP, they got a call that morning that a wanted man was near Keld, about 27 kilometers southwest of Dauphin. RCMP officers from the Dauphin, Ste. Rose du Lac, and Roblin detachments as well as the Manitoba West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Team (CREST) and RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) all joined the search.
Police said they eventually found the suspect near a gravel pit, from which he ran into a wooded area. The resulting search lasted for about three hours.
“PDS Marook and PDS Skipper, with assistance from a drone, were deployed and began tracking the suspect through difficult terrain, including thick brush and a deep river,” said RCMP in a release.
Police have arrested Jordy Robertson, of the RM of Gilbert Plains and charged him with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, flight from a peace officer, resist/obstruct a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x3, mischief over $5000, and fail to comply with probation order x3.
