The Keystone Centre and the Brandon and Area Community Foundation have partnered to create the Keystone Centre Foundation. Headed by volunteer Executive Director Barry Cooper – it’ll use donations to support facility development and community service activities. An upcoming event is a Family Fun Day at the Keystone Centre planned for December 20th.

Brandon’s Assiniboine College opened a new community workspace on Thursday. The $750,000 ‘Creative CoLab’ features equipment like flatbed scanners and 3D printers. The college says the goal of the new space is to help build creative industries and economic activity in the city.

Manitoba politicians get back to work next Tuesday, November 18th. The new session of the Legislature will open with the Speech from the Throne that’ll outline the government’s plans and priorities for the upcoming term.

Ottawa has announced the latest batch of major building projects to be considered for fast-tracking. They include a nickel mine in Northern Ontario, a hydroelectric project in Iqaluit, a transmission line and LNG project in BC – and mines in Quebec and New Brunswick. What wasn’t mentioned was expanding Manitoba’s Port of Churchill, which Premier Wab Kinew says is going through approval processes.

Premier Wab Kinew is not ruling out an early election ahead of October 5th, 2027, and says he came close to calling one recently. That’s when a bill to detain intoxicated people for 72 hours almost failed to pass. Kinew says he was ready to – ‘go to the people’ – because the Conservatives were playing games with health-care and safety.

More than two-thirds of younger Canadians are getting their political content from influencers – and influencers have more reach on five major social media platforms than news media outlets or politicians. A study looked
at X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Bluesky. Researchers say this is a significant power shift away from institutions like political parties and news outlets to individuals on social media.
