Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says he will require all schools to submit new safety plans by December 25th regarding entrances being locked. This comes after a registered sex-offender got into Winnipeg’s Darwin School last week and hid in the school’s bathroom. $500 hundred thousand dollars is being split between all schools in the province for training and safety improvements.

Premier Wab Kinew says the search for Ashlee Shingoose at Winnipeg’s Brady Road landfill has now started. The search area has been narrowed down and the first load of debris has been taken to a search facility.

Brandon University has received a gift of almost $1.1 million dollars from Michael N. Chernoff, which will financially help the top students in each of the schools 4 faculties, as well as the school of music. Starting next year, each recipient will get about 6 thousand dollars per year, renewable for to 4 years, helping up to 20 students with $24 thousand dollars towards their degrees.

The 40th anniversary of the Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner was saved last minute, as the Imperial Ballroom at the Vic Inn was secured. The event provides hot meals and companionship for those that would otherwise go without it. It will run from Noon until 4pm on December 25th, thanks to the help of local volunteers and organizations.

Manitoba Public Insurance is urging drivers to slow down as winter conditions return this season, as about 6,300 accidents happened last season due to careless driving. MPI recommends increasing following distance, breaking earlier, putting on winter tires, clearing snow and ice off your car, and keeping an emergency kit with you.

The Canadian Revenue Agency has released new tax brackets and benefit amounts to adjust for inflation in 2026. Incomes under $117 thousand and above $58 thousand 500 will be taxed at 20.5 per cent, and incomes under $58 thousand 500 will be taxed at 14 percent. Tax bracket changes will start on January 1st, and benefit changes will start on July 1st.
