
Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister addressed the violence in Mexico on Parliament Hill today.
More than 26,000 Canadians registered in Mexico with Global Affairs Canada. The Mexican President described the country as “calm.” Airlines have cancelled flights, and thousands of Canadians are stranded.
Mexico’s Security Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch said 25 members of the National Guard were killed in Jalisco state after the death of “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
More than 30 cartel operatives have died in the violence, officials said.
