A Brandon Pharmacy has been called out for denying free birth control. The Brandon Sun says an open letter that was posted on socials by a woman last month; thanking the NDP government for providing free birth control, but she noted; that the Brandon Walmart pharmacy; had tried to “charge her” for it. The Mb Government says access to birth control is– basic health care. So far, Walmart has not responded.

The Brandon School board approved a 7.25% property tax hike at Monday’s meeting. That means the owner of an average single-family home assessed at $301,300 will pay about $138.49 more in school taxes. Trustees approved a $149.8 million budget for the 2026-27 school year; a 6.5 per cent increase in spending compared to last year. 5-full-time equivalent teaching positions were also approved.

Ottawa is putting nearly a billion dollars into the National Research Council for defense initiatives, including the purchase of a Bombardier jet for research. Ottawa says $900 million is part of its Defense Industrial Strategy; including support for drone and aerospace technology; and for a new drone innovation hub; that will operate in the Ottawa and Montreal areas.

New Democrats began casting their vote online and by mail Monday for a new federal leader, with five candidates; 3-men and 2-women vying for the top job. The NDP says its membership increased to approximately 100,000 people, up from 60,000 in September 2025, when the leadership race began. Voting continues until The NDP’s convention in Wpg at the end of March.

Opposition parties from across the political spectrum are demanding clarity from the Liberal government on it’s position on the U.S.-Israel war on I-ran. Federal NDP interim leader Don Davies slammed the government’s communications on the war so far saying: “Canadians deserve to have a clear statement from the prime minister; to be accountable not only to parliamentarians but to the Canadian public, and to clarify what the position of Canada and his Liberal government really is.
