Canada’s annual inflation rate fell to 1.8 per cent in February, that’s because the war’s impact; is not yet reflected. Sky high gas prices will almost certainly be felt in next month’s report. But food prices saw the biggest slowdown, mostly driven by slower growth in prices for fresh and frozen beef. However; Stats Canada noted that grocery prices have risen more than 30 per cent since February 2021.

Should The Mayor and City council get pay raises, reduce it’s council size; and change the city’s ward system? The Brandon Sun says the Administration offered 12-recommendations; based on a review that compared Brandon to 6-cities of similar size in Alberta and Saskatchewan at last night’s Council Meeting. Some include: Having 9- council members instead of 11; reducing the number of wards from 10 to four; increase the Mayor’s salary by 3-per cent every year until 2030; while setting councilor salaries at 30 per cent of the Mayor’s salary, which is: $105,271. Councilors in Brandon were paid the lowest of the 7-cities studied.

Brandon’s Intensive Care Unit will see 6 new nurses on the floor this spring. A record 45-nurses have completed specialized critical care training; ready to work in Mb hospitals April 23rd; with the next cohort will start training the following week. The NDP government has recruited 1,100 net new nurses across Manitoba, with 51 health-care workers added to the Brandon Regional Health Centre, since October 2023.

Police are looking for 2 suspects in a rash of “slashed-tires incidents” in the city’s south end; last week. A Buick Enclave was also stolen. The 2-suspects are described as: One wearing red jogging pants, a red hoodie, a black jacket and sunglasses; the 2nd suspect was wearing grey pants, a grey hoodie, a black vest and black shoes. There were 70 reports of slashed tires Wednesday; on Pine Ridge Crescent, Hawthorn Crescent, Magnolia Drive, Tracey Street, Sycamore Drive, Aspen Drive and Mulberry Crescent.
