City Council is hoping to borrow $6-Millon dollars for a new outdoor aquatic facility that would include 2-pools, a lazy river and waterslides. The only outdoor pool is the Kinsmen Centennial Pool in the east end; and it’s more than 50 years old; and has been plagued with problems and shutdowns. 3 possible sites are being considered ; opening in 2028. The city says the 6-million dollar loan will be repaid over 10 years. The first option was for Kinsmen Centennial Pool to be dismantled, with two new pools built in its place — one for leisure swimmers, the other with five lanes for lap swimming. Two waterslides would be added, along with a lazy river. Another option was the site of the long-abandoned Kiwanis pool at the Keystone Centre, where a lazy river, a waterslide, a leisure pool and a six-lane lap swimming pool would be built. The third option was for a smaller facility to be built in Kin Park, in the city’s southeast end. There would be a waterslide, a leisure pool and another pool with four lanes for swimmers.
