A 31-year-old man from Keeseekoowenin First Nation faces a long list of charges after a series of alleged crimes in Rossburn that, according to RCMP, took place one after the other in a short window.
In a release, Russell RCMP said they got a call at about 3:05 PM on April 2 of a van that collided with three parked cars on Victoria Avenue, not far from a local daycare at a time of day when young children and their parents were entering and exiting the building. Police said their investigators have determined the van was travelling at a high rate of speed, causing severe damage to all four vehicles.
“Shortly after the collision, RCMP learned a male suspect matching the description of the driver had just assaulted a male at a nearby hotel,” reads the RCMP release. “The victim of the assault went to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”
Police said bystanders waved them down at about 3:30 PM and pointed a suspect out while he was walking in the community. RCMP arrested him without incident.
The suspect was charged with assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, failing to stop after an accident, impaired driving, and operating a vehicle while over .08. He was remanded into custody.
