With both their loss to the Vegas Golden Knights and a win by the Los Angeles Kings, the Winnipeg Jets have been officially eliminated from the NHL postseason race. Mark Scheifele set a new franchise record with 101 points in the loss to Vegas, but it wasn’t enough as the Jets fell 6-2. Winnipeg has two games remaining, including tonight against Utah.
All 16 playoff teams in the NHL have been locked in as of last night, thanks to Los Angeles’s win over Seattle. Most of the first-round matchups, however, are still to be determined. The Montreal Canadiens remain in a three-way race for the Atlantic Division title, while Edmonton could still win the Pacific but must beat out Anaheim and Vegas to do so.
Following exit meetings for the Brandon Wheat Kings, head coach and GM Marty Murray said there were no surprises as to any players leaving for the NCAA they didn’t already know about. He said the early playoff exit this season was disappointing, but also said certain players grew by leaps and bounds and showed reason for optimism for next season.
The Toronto Blue Jays get back in action tonight as they face the Milwaukee Brewers at 6:40.
