Biffie Talk: Martha Stweart says: The Top Things Guests Notice When Using Your Bathroom
Before having people over, cleaning the bathroom is always at the top of the to-do list. There’s a good chance your guests will be in there at some point and the room is also a natural magnet for clutter, grime, and not-so-fresh smells. While visitors to your home probably won’t notice how clean your baseboards and ceiling fan are, they’re going to know if the bathroom is messy.
Cleanliness and smell – The very first thing they’ll pay attention to is the way it smells in there and how it looks. An all-purpose cleaner can help with both, just make sure you run the bathroom fan and give the room some time to air out before guests arrive. Then use a scented candle or diffuser to leave it smelling fresh.
Too much clutter – Time to tidy or hide the toothbrushes, medications, contact solution, face wash and the countless other products you have on the bathroom counter. Swap out hand towels for clean ones, move your robe and used bath towels out so it looks good for guests.
Easily accessible essentials – Running out of toilet paper is a hosting faux pas, so make sure there’s plenty in the bathroom, and that it’s clearly visible and easy to reach. If you’re feeling fancy, create a “hospitality tray” with extras like mints, eye drops, tampons, hand lotion and allergy medications.
Nice toiletries – Want to impress your guests? Swap out your paper towels with a basket of washable linens, store toilet paper in fun containers, like ceramic pots or woven baskets, and upgrade to high-quality hand soaps and lotions.
Good lighting – After covering the basics of cleaning and supplies, focus on lighting. Anything beyond the bright overhead light is an upgrade, so if you can add a lamp or have lighting on dimmers, even better.
Custom touches – Minimal design can be nice in a bathroom, but guests also appreciate functional, elevated pieces like a vase of fresh flowers, antique mirrors, and vintage apothecary cabinets. To really set the vibe, add a speaker playing the party playlist.
