Brandon residents will have plenty to take in this month as the Downtown BIZ and Western Manitoba Regional Library team up for a week of community programming running April 16 to 25. The partnership brings together local organizations, businesses and educators to offer a wide range of accessible activities for families, youth and adults across the city.
The series begins April 16 with a puzzle-building competition at Section 6 Brewing, located at 1126 Princess Avenue. The fundraiser runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m., with teams able to register by emailing the library. The entry fee is $50, with proceeds supporting community programming.
On April 17, the downtown library branch will host a Slime Day for children ages five to eight. The session runs from 2 to 3 p.m., with registration available by phone or email. Families looking for something more adventurous can sign up for the library’s Lab Lockdown escape room, offered April 18 and April 25 for teams of four to six, beginning at 10 a.m.
A special book club event is planned for April 23, featuring Mayor Jeff Fawcett and Brandon University professor Dr. Gautam Srivastava. The pair will lead a discussion on Empire of AI by Karen Hao from 5 to 7 p.m. at the downtown branch, exploring themes around technology, ethics and the future of artificial intelligence.
The week wraps up April 24 with a blanket exercise at the Elspeth Reid Family Resource Centre, held in partnership with the Brandon Friendship Centre and the Aboriginal Wellness Centre. The session runs from 10 a.m. to noon and requires advance registration.
Organizers say the goal is to bring people downtown, support local partners and offer meaningful, family-friendly programming throughout the week.
