Very few Manitobans will be sorry to see the tail end of the cold weather, but an approaching rise in temperature does carry some caveats with it, especially for the Parkland Region.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre released their second flood bulletin of the season today, and partial snowmelt is already underway in much of the province. This partial snowmelt will become more universal as temperatures rise into the 20s next week, per Environment Canada.
“The Hydrologic Forecast Centre indicates that as colder weather conditions ease over the weekend, warmer temperatures expected next week will accelerate snowmelt and increase ice movement across southern and central Manitoba,” reads a release from the province. “This will elevate the risk of ice jam–related flooding and overland flooding, particularly in the Parkland region.”
As the melt continues, updated flood information will be available at www.Manitoba.ca/flooding/.
