A 14-year-old boy faces new charges relating to threats made against students at Rivers Collegiate, RCMP announced today.
In a release, police said he has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, counselling the offence of murder, and two counts of uttering threats. He will appear in court in June but cannot be named due to his age.
According to RCMP, they first learned of a conversation between this boy and another boy (15 years old) from Nova Scotia on March 13. Police allege the conversation began in late February and that the boy from Rivers was actively discussing and planning to harm other students at the school. Both suspects were arrested on March 16 by Manitoba RCMP and Bridgewater Police Service in Nova Scotia, respectively.
Police said they seized the phone and electronic devices of the 14-year-old from Rivers and, after getting a search warrant for two properties associated with the youth, seized additional electronic devices and other items, including two firearms owned by a relative. The youth was charged that day with uttering threats.
According to the release this morning, their investigation led to these new charges and investigators with RCMP Major Crime Services re-arrested the suspect yesterday at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
