A dramatic three-goal comeback in regulation capped off by an overtime winner from Brett Kulak sent the Colorado Avalanche to the Western Conference Final last night. The Avs were down 3-0 after the first period but slowly chipped away at the lead before tying it with the net empty. They await the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks, which could be decided as early as this evening at 8:30 Central Time. Montreal will also face Buffalo tonight in game five of their series at 6:00 Central.
Just one day after the Toronto Maple Leafs parted ways with head coach Craig Berube, another Canadian team has moved on from their coach. The Edmonton Oilers have fired Kris Knoblauch this morning, despite having signed him to a contract extension in October. The Oilers made the playoffs this season but were eliminated in the first round by the Anaheim Ducks.
The Toronto Blue Jays ended their three-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays on a winning note last night, taking a 5-3 victory. They get a day off today to savor the win, before facing the Detroit Tigers tomorrow at 5:45.
Former Brandon Wheat King Hayden Wheddon and the MJHL champion Niverville Nighthawks are off to the semi-finals at the Centennial Cup, Canada’s national Junior-A championship, after going unbeaten in four round robin games. The semi-finals take place on Saturday.
