Two people are facing charges after an RCMP officer was punched while investigating an assault in Russell early June 17.
RCMP say officers responded around 3:30 a.m. to a report of an assault at a residence on Augusta Street East. Investigators learned a 20-year-old woman had attended a party at a nearby home, where she was allegedly repeatedly punched and kicked by another woman. Paramedics treated the victim for her injuries.
When officers attended the party location, they were met by a 29-year-old man known to police. RCMP say the man initially attempted to shake an officer’s hand before punching the officer in the side of the head. The officer took the suspect to the ground and arrested him.
Police also located and arrested the woman accused in the original assault.
Maverick Oudie, 29, of Dauphin, is charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting a peace officer. Tanis Cooke, 25, of Waywayseecappo First Nation, is charged with assault.
Both accused have been released and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
