The first teases of the full WHL schedule are starting to come out, and Wheat Kings fans now know when they’ll see their Black and Gold in the first preseason action. And for the second straight season, the Wheat Kings will take one of their games to a non-traditional WHL market.
After opening their preseason on September 4 on home ice against the Regina Pats, the Wheat Kings will hit the road next night to Ochapowace Nation in Saskatchewan, for a rematch against the Pats. It will very much be a home atmosphere for Regina, as even though Ochapowace is almost exactly halfway between the two cities (just under two hours travel from Regina and just over two from Brandon) the Pats have Ochapowace native Connor Bear on the roster.
Rounding out the exhibition schedule for the Wheat Kings, in contrast to last season’s back-to-back games against the Swift Current Broncos, the Wheat Kings will face an opponent slightly closer to home. They’ll host the Moose Jaw Warriors on September 11, then travel to Moose Jaw for the rematch on September 12.
The Wheat Kings have already announced their home opener the following Friday against Saskatoon. They’ll release the full schedule later this week.
