Manitoba Public Insurance has dealt with more claims from the June 9 storm than it has for any other single weather event in its history, but despite that it’s urging customers to keep on reporting their claims.
According to their website, MPI has already received over 25,000 claims from that event, breaking a record that had stood for 30 years set by a hail storm in 1996. But as they’re opening a new hail response centre in Winnipeg at their Main Street location, they’re hoping a potentially longer wait time won’t deter people from seeking coverage.
“MPI is reminding customers to open their claims as soon as possible to help us fully understand the total number of claims and the overall impact of this event,” they said on their website. “To serve more customers and assess damage to vehicles faster, the Corporation has put a response process in place to manage this exceptional volume of claims.”
A previously-opened hail claims center on Gateway, which opened on June 17, has already put out 1200 asssessments. With the opening of the new location, they say they’ll be able to process about 400 claims per day.
Full details on how to file a claim and where you should go if your vehicle was damaged in this storm are available on MPI’s website.
