A downpour that had much of WestMan under an overland flood watch may have set post-flood recovery efforts back slightly in Brandon, but the City of Brandon is determined to keep things on track nonetheless.
The City said in their latest flood update that the Assiniboine River has now receded within its banks, so crews can now continue with site assessments, debris removal, repairs, and cleanup in low-lying areas.
They also said, however, that the rain of Friday that brought the overland flood watch from Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre may have delayed some recovery efforts in certain areas, because drying time will be required to gain access to those spots. Dinsdale and Queen Elizabeth Parks remain closed.
“City crews are working to reopen these areas as quickly as possible,” said the City in a post on their Facebook page. “However, we ask for your continued patience and understanding as we take the time needed to complete the work properly and ensure our parks are safe for everyone to enjoy.”
They added that they would let people know as soon the areas are safe and reopened for public use. In the mean time, they asked people to be patient and respect any closures or signage.
