More than a dozen difference branches of the RCMP and other law enforcement agencies took part in an operation that was nearly two full years in the making. Today, Manitoba RCMP announced the results of that investigation.
RCMP said they have arrested 15 people in connection with Project Dolor, an investigation into a drug and weapons trafficking network operating in several southern Manitoba communities. They’ve also seized more than 10 kilograms of illicit drugs.
“The teamwork displayed during this project was exceptional to witness,” said Manitoba RCMP assistant commissioner Scott McMurchy. “Everyone worked together, pushing in the same direction, with the shared goal of taking illicit drugs and illegal weapons off the streets and bringing those accused to justice.”
As part of the project, RCMP officers and Winkler Police Service Seized about:
- Eight kilograms of cocaine;
- 2.5 kilograms of psilocybin;
- 13 restricted handguns, three of which were illegally trafficked;
- 44 non-restricted firearms, the majority of which were unlawfully stored;
- Thousands of rounds of various ammunition;
- Four vehicles with a combined cash value of about $110,000;
- 228 cartons of unstamped tobacco; and
- $4,500 in cash.
In total, 67 charges have been laid so far as part of the ongoing investigation.
