A fatal collision in the Rural Municipality of Stanley has claimed the life of a 35-year-old man from Plum Coulee, adding to Manitoba’s growing number of traffic fatalities this year.
Pembina Valley RCMP responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 27 at the uncontrolled gravel intersection of Road 17 North and Road 19 West. Police say an eastbound truck pulling a flat-bed trailer collided with a northbound truck hauling a garbage trailer. Both vehicles ended up in the northeast ditch.
The driver of the flat-bed truck died at the scene. The other driver, a 42-year-old man from the RM of Stanley, was transported to hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The latest fatality comes amid concerns over rising highway deaths across Manitoba in 2026, with safety advocates continuing to urge motorists to slow down, remain alert at rural intersections and drive defensively.
RCMP, local firefighters and paramedics attended the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
