Blue Hills RCMP have arrested a Souris man following a violent incident in which an armed suspect entered a home, assaulted a resident and pointed a firearm at two people. The confrontation unfolded around 12:55 p.m. on Aug. 27, when officers were called to a residence after reports of an armed male inside.
Investigators say the suspect knocked on the door and asked to speak with the female resident’s partner. Moments later, he allegedly assaulted her and pointed a high‑powered rifle at her. As she fled, her husband arrived and tackled the suspect, managing to wrestle away the firearm and restrain him until RCMP arrived. Neither victim suffered serious injuries.
Police seized the firearm and took the suspect into custody. He was transported to hospital for monitoring and formally arrested the following morning upon release.
Kenneth Kettles, 66, of Souris is charged with:
- Pointing a firearm x2;
- Resisting a peace officer;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Break and enter Careless use of a firearm;
- Assault with a weapon x2; Assault;
- Using a firearm in the commission of an offence;
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.
