Brandon University is reporting a strong start to the academic year, with significant increases in both first-time student registrations and international enrolment as students return to campus for orientation activities.
University officials say first-time student enrolment is up 7.7 per cent compared to last year, while first-time international student registrations have surged 26.7 per cent.
The university has not yet released an official overall enrolment figure for 2026. However, based on Brandon University’s most recent reported enrolment of 3,184 students in 2025, total enrolment could approach 3,430 students if similar growth trends are reflected across the broader student population.
Orientation events this week introduced students to campus services, support resources, academic programs and student organizations as they begin the fall term.
International Enrolment Driving Growth
The largest increase is being seen among international students, with first-time international registrations climbing more than 26 per cent year over year.
The increase comes as many Canadian post-secondary institutions continue to navigate federal changes to international student policies and recruitment efforts. Despite those challenges, Brandon University appears to be attracting a growing number of students from outside Canada.
University officials say the growth in both domestic and international enrolment reflects continued interest in the institution’s academic programs and student experience.
Looking Ahead
While final enrolment figures will not be known until registration is completed and student counts are finalized, the early numbers point to positive momentum heading into the 2026-27 academic year.
If the growth seen in first-time enrolment carries through the broader student body, Brandon University could surpass last year’s enrolment total of 3,184 students.
