Two Ontario men are facing charges after RCMP discovered approximately $50,000 in cash inside a semi-truck during a traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway near Elie.
RCMP Traffic Services officers pulled over the eastbound truck on the afternoon of Sept. 29. While speaking with the two occupants, officers noticed a package of unmarked cigarettes on the dashboard, prompting a more thorough inspection of the vehicle.
Police say that search led to the discovery of a package hidden among groceries containing roughly $50,000 in cash. The two occupants were arrested without incident.
A 38-year-old man from Hannon, Ontario, and a 53-year-old man from Mississauga, Ontario, have each been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Their identities have not been released because the charges have not yet been sworn in court.
Both men were released on appearance notices and are scheduled to appear in court in January.
RCMP say the investigation remains ongoing.
