BRANDON, Man. — A major expansion at Maryland Park School is now complete, providing much-needed classroom space as Brandon’s population and student enrolment continue to grow.
The Manitoba government joined Brandon School Division officials Tuesday to celebrate the opening of a new $13-million addition at the school. The project increases the school’s capacity from 550 students to 900, creating room for hundreds more students in one of Brandon’s fastest-growing areas.
Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt said the investment is aimed at ensuring students can attend school within their own community while benefiting from modern learning environments.
“Students learn best when they have the space, resources and support they need to succeed,” Schmidt said in a news release.
The expansion adds more than 17,800 square feet to the school and includes 13 general classrooms, one science classroom, student support spaces, additional parking and a new access point at the northwest corner of the school grounds.
The project comes as Brandon continues to experience residential growth, particularly in the city’s south end, increasing pressure on local schools and educational infrastructure.
Schmidt said the province is making significant investments in public education to help communities keep pace with changing needs.
“Our government is making historic investments in public education because strong schools are essential to strong communities,” she said.
Brandon School Division Board Chair Linda Ross called the project an important milestone for students, staff and families.
“This addition to Maryland Park School is an exciting milestone for our community that ensures we can provide more students with access to modern learning spaces where they can feel welcome, supported and ready to succeed,” Ross said.
Construction was completed in time for the start of the 2026-27 school year, with students already using the new learning spaces.
The expansion is expected to help address growing enrolment pressures in the Brandon School Division while providing room for future growth as new families continue to move into the city.
