Brandon voters will have an opportunity to hear directly from municipal election candidates tonight during two public forums at Lorne Watson Hall located on the north end of the Brandon University campus.
The 90-minute sessions begin at 5 p.m. with candidates from Wards 2 and 7, followed by candidates from Wards 3 and 8 at 7 p.m. The forums are open to constituents and members of the public interested in hearing where candidates stand on key local issues ahead of the Oct. 28 municipal election.
Ward 2 features a four-way race between Deveryn Ross, Buchi Onuke, Sunday Frangi and Sonikile Tembo. In Ward 7, Shawn Berry faces challenger Quentin Robinson. Ward 3 voters will hear from Enver Naidoo, Quentin Derhak, Craig Shanks and Kevin Chambers, while Ward 8 candidates include incumbent Jason Splett, Dhara Patel and Ketan Patel.
The forums come as Brandon officials hope to improve voter engagement after just 17 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in the last municipal election. With advance voting already underway, candidates will be looking to connect with voters and encourage greater participation in this year’s civic vote.
