A 19-year-old Portage la Prairie man is facing charges after RCMP say he pointed and fired an imitation firearm at a woman who was tending to her child earlier this week.
Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of the incident at approximately 5:15 p.m. on October 13 in the 1800 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West.
According to police, a 31-year-old woman was with her child when someone inside a passing truck yelled at her. When she turned toward the vehicle, she saw a male pointing what appeared to be a firearm in her direction. RCMP allege the suspect then fired the weapon.
No one was injured in the incident, and investigators say the suspect and victim were not known to each other.
Following the report, officers patrolled the area and located the suspect vehicle on the 600 block of 9th Street Northwest. Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested three males at the scene.
A search of the truck led to the seizure of three cap guns, along with assorted ammunition and caps. RCMP say one of the cap guns had its orange safety tip removed, making it more closely resemble a real firearm.
As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Jamie Strong of Portage la Prairie has been charged with using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence and uttering threats.
Strong was remanded into custody following his arrest.
The two other males who were taken into custody during the traffic stop were later released without charge as the investigation continued.
