A new rendering offers a glimpse of what YWCA Westman’s $40-million future home could look like.
Posted on its official website, YWCA Westman’s future campus project is described as going beyond a shelter or housing project.
“It is intended to function as a coordinated, trauma-informed platform that helps women and families access, navigate, and remain connected to services,” reads a document outlining the design.
YWCA Westman said the campus will increase emergency shelter spaces by 35 per cent for individuals and children fleeing violence.
It will also include the region’s first sexual assault examination suite and dedicated justice rooms where lawyers can work with survivors of gender-based violence and sexual assault.
The project comes as YWCA Westman continues to face shelter capacity challenges, having served more than 450 clients in 2025.
“In 2025, the Westman Women’s Shelter had to turn away 75 individuals because it was at capacity. The year before that it was 81.”
YWCA Westman plans to build the site on the former location of Meredith Place along 11th Street.
The building was demolished in 2023 due to aging infrastructure.
However, the project’s timeline depends on external funding.
“A transformational initiative such as the Women’s Campus requires the support of every level of government: federal, provincial and municipal.”
The YWCA has also secured $800,000 for pre-design development and will work with donors to secure additional funding.
