Residents in six Westman municipalities won’t be heading to the polls for municipal elections this fall after every available council position was filled by acclamation.
Declared election results show the municipalities of Cornwallis, Prairie View, Grassland, Cartwright-Roblin, Argyle and Dauphin have all elected their councils without opposition, eliminating the need for local voting.
In the Municipality of Cornwallis, Mike Waddell was acclaimed reeve, joined by councillors Shane Drohan, Terry Ross, Bob Brown and Shane Macialek.
The Municipality of Prairie View also filled all seats by acclamation. Roger Wilson was acclaimed reeve, while Trevor Clark, Darcy Oliver, Trent Peel, Ian Cottingham, Robert Bonchuk and Michael Fulcher secured council positions.
In the Municipality of Grassland, Claude Martin was acclaimed reeve. The incoming council includes Bruce Evans, Kevin Mantell, Kevin Buhler, Coral Millar, Terry Campbell and Alanna Phillips.
The Municipality of Cartwright-Roblin will be led by acclaimed Head of Council Shayne Kinley. Acclaimed councillors include Tim Bridges, Penny Burton, Renae Maxwell, Brent Pawich, Robert Sveinson and Kevin Kielhorn.
In Argyle, Lana Grenier was acclaimed reeve, while Jesse Janz, Scott Pantel, Dory Parsonage, Ross Ballantine, Alan Skardal and Belinda Pearson earned council seats by acclamation.
The Municipality of Dauphin rounds out the list, with Ernie (Ernest) Sirski acclaimed reeve. Joining council are Todd Bogiuski, Tammy Koshowski, Ken Plustwa, Midge Sametz and Ken Shewchuk.
Under Manitoba’s municipal election rules, candidates are elected by acclamation when the number of nominees matches the number of available positions.
The newly acclaimed councils will serve four-year terms from 2026 through 2030.
