A 19-year-old man has died following a collision in southeastern Manitoba, adding to a growing number of highway fatalities across the province this year.
Another fatal collision on Manitoba roads is renewing concerns about traffic safety as the province continues to record a troubling number of highway deaths in 2026.
RCMP say a 19-year-old man from Dominion City was killed Saturday evening following a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck at the intersection of Provincial Road 23 and Provincial Road 200 in the RM of De Salaberry.
According to investigators, the vehicle was travelling north on PR 200 with five occupants when it collided with an eastbound semi-truck. The truck jack-knifed and rolled into the ditch, while the passenger vehicle came to rest in a nearby ditch.
The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man from the RM of Stuartburn, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Three teenage passengers, ranging in age from 16 to 17, were also hospitalized with multiple injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 27-year-old Winnipeg resident, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The latest tragedy comes as Manitoba continues to grapple with a rising number of fatal crashes on both provincial highways and municipal roads. Police and traffic safety advocates have repeatedly urged drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, wear seatbelts and drive according to road and weather conditions.
With winter driving season approaching and more challenging road conditions expected in the weeks ahead, authorities say motorists should remain vigilant behind the wheel.
St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP and Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate the collision.
