Customers served by Stittco Utilities Man Ltd. will soon see higher propane bills after the Manitoba Public Utilities Board approved a significant increase in the company’s propane commodity rate.
Effective November 1, the commodity rate will rise from $1.2513 per cubic metre to $1.6792 per cubic metre. According to the Public Utilities Board, the increase reflects higher forecast costs for propane purchases over the next three months. Stittco passes those costs directly to customers without a markup.
At the same time, the Board approved a small reduction in Stittco’s non-commodity, or delivery, rates. However, the decrease is not enough to offset the higher fuel costs.
The Board estimates the new commodity rate will add approximately $225 annually to the average residential customer’s bill, while the lower delivery charges will reduce annual costs by about $4. The combined impact is an average increase of roughly $221 per year, or about 12 per cent, compared to rates approved in August.
Actual increases will vary depending on how much propane individual customers use throughout the year.
The Public Utilities Board noted that propane commodity costs are reviewed regularly and that Stittco’s rates will be examined again ahead of February 1, 2027.
Additional details on the ruling can be found in Board Order 149/26 through the Public Utilities Board of Manitoba.
