Now that the Pallister government has mandated COVID-19 vaccinations for some of its employees, and also for child and health-care providers and teachers, who’s next?
In an email, the City of Brandon says “it has not contemplated the subject of mandatory vaccinations, at this time”. Meanwhile down the highway in Winnipeg, that city says it’s evaluating how it can align its efforts with the province, but nothing’s written in stone just yet.
Winnipeg’s unions say they need to be included in any discussions before any vaccination policy is implemented.
Earlier this week, the Brandon Police Service Chief Wayne Balcaen told The Brandon Sun that BPS “has not contemplated the subject of mandatory vaccinations, at this time” – and Brandon Fire and Emergency Services Chief Scott McDonald said “the organization was still reviewing the province’s move for firefighter/paramedics.”
Provincial employees who work with vulnerable people will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by October, 31st or be tested up to three times a week.
