On December 28, 2021, Brandon police responded to a report of a Break and Enter to a business in the 1200 block of Highland Avenue. They say suspects gained entry to the business by using a vehicle to damage an overhead door on December 23, 2021. Stolen was a variety of power tools, many of which had previously been recovered by police on December 25, 2021 following the recovery of a stolen vehicle. Police continue to investigate the additional Break and Enter.
Original December 26, 2021 release: Break & Enter, Theft of Vehicle & Possession of Stolen Property
On December 25, at approx. 8:30 am, police received a report of a Break, Enter & Theft to a business on Middleton Ave that occurring earlier that morning. The suspects drove a vehicle through the gate to gain entry to the compound. Once inside they stole tools from several vehicles. Later that morning, an employee of an oilfield company from Virden reported a possible stolen vehicle. He was following a company truck, eastbound on College Ave. The driver was not an employee. The driver then got out of the vehicle and ran off on foot going through yards, in the 700 blk 12th St. He removed some outer clothing before entering a garage of a house in the 700 blk 12th St. The suspect, a 40 year old male with no fixed address, stole a jacket out of the garage and left walking down the back lane. He was seen by police and recognized as the suspect. He was arrested. Further investigation determined he was the suspect from the Break & Enter on Middleton and it was confirmed, the vehicle he had been driving was stolen. He was lodged to appear in the morning on charges of Break, Enter and Theft, Possession of Stolen Property and Operate a Conveyance while Prohibited.

On December 28, 2021, at approximately 10:00 am, police responded to a report of a male in a business in the 400 block of 9th Street who was allegedly behaving in a threatening manner towards clients of the business, and not allowing them to enter. The male was not welcome at the business, but refused to leave when asked. Police attempted to arrest him in an effort to remove him from the building, but say the 45-year-old male resisted. In order to gain compliance from the male, police deployed a conducted energy weapon. Once arrested, the male was lodged at Brandon Police Service. As he was believed to be under the influence of an illicit drug, he will be released when sober to appear in court on March 24, 2022, on charges of Resist Arrest and Trespass.

On December 28, 2021, Brandon police responded to a report of a disturbance at a business in the 700 block of 10th Street at approximately 6:30 pm. Police say a 27-year-old man, who had been barred from the business, allegedly became angry with the employees when he was refused service and told to leave. The suspect then reportedly assaulted an employee before causing damage in the store and leaving. Police say he was located and arrested nearby, and was lodged at Brandon Police Service to be released once sober on charges of Assault, Mischief to Property and Fail to comply with Probation.

On December 28, 2021, shortly after 10:00 pm, police responded to a report of an assault in a residence. Investigation revealed that a 28-year-old man had allegedly assaulted the victim during an argument. The victim did not require medical attention. The suspect was lodged at Brandon Police Service following his arrest. He will appear in court today (Dec 29) on a charge of Assault. Police also discovered another individual in the residence who was to abide by a court ordered curfew. She was allegedly in breach of this condition, as she did not reside at the residence. A 21-year-old woman was arrested and released to appear in court on February 24, 2021 on a charge of Fail to comply with Undertaking.

On December 28, 2021 at approximately 6:00 pm, Brandon police responded to a report of a 20-year-old man at a residence allegedly against a court order forbidding him from attending the address or from communicating with the occupants. He was located in the residence and arrested, and is to appear in court on February 24, 2022 on a charge of Fail to Comply with Undertaking.
