We’ll soon have a new area code in Manitoba to go along with 204 and 431.
Last month, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) ruled phone numbers that that begin with the area code 584 can begin being issued on October 29th, 2022 by telecom providers.
The Canadian Numbering Administration (CAN), which assigns phone numbers, says the province was on track to exhaust all numbers under the current area codes by December 2023.
Manitoba added the 431 area code in 2012, while 584 was first suggested for the province in 2017.
Competition in the telecom market has been speeding-up the process for issuing new area codes the past few years.
