The City of Brandon is providing the following update regarding the spring snowstorm as Environment Canada has issued a Blizzard Warning for the City of Brandon and surrounding areas.
Emergency Response Control Group
The Emergency Response Control Group, which includes representatives from all city departments, continues to monitor this spring snowstorm and its impact on all essential services.
Brandon’s Community Sportsplex and The Youth Centre
Brandon’s Community Sportsplex (30 Knowlton Dr.) and the Youth Centre (638 Princess Ave) have both been closed.
The Sportsplex is scheduled to re-open on Friday, April 15th, 2022, and the Youth Centre is scheduled to re-open on Saturday April 16th, 2022.
As the storm continues, we will continue to assess weather conditions. There may be the need to extend these closures if weather conditions persist.
Emergency Preparedness
With this spring snowstorm, the Brandon Emergency Support Team (B.E.S.T.) is reminding residents to be prepared and update supplies in their emergency supply kit. This may include drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit, a flashlight with extra batteries, battery operated radio and a fully charged cell phone. These supplies should last a minimum of 72hrs.
Environment Canada has advised that blizzard conditions are developing through much of the region and widespread highway closures have occurred. Near-zero visibility in snow and blowing snow continues to be expected in most of western Manitoba this afternoon, accompanied by winds gusting to 70 km/h.
Non-essential travel continues to be discouraged with these deteriorating conditions. If you are going to travel, please check Manitoba 511 website for road conditions and/or closures. Also, please ensure to have an emergency car kit in the vehicle.
