Environment Canada warns that heavy snowfall and blowing snow is expected to begin today (Apr 19).
A low pressure complex developing near the Canada/U.S. border will spread heavy snowfall into southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba. The snow will be heaviest on Wednesday morning, but accumulating snowfall will persist into Thursday for many locations. Amounts could total between 15 and 40 centimetres.
In addition to the snow, winds as strong as 50 gusting 70 km/h will produce periods of blowing snow as well. Stay tuned to Q Country 91.5 and 94.7 Star FM for updates and be prepared for changing conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
