A busy agenda at Brandon City Council tonight (July 17).
There will be a vote on amendments to the ‘community standards’ bylaw. Among other things, it proposes new fines targeting panhandling.
Brandon Pride will present a report and a request for a permanent sign or flag at City Hall, a painted crosswalk downtown, a painted park walking path – and a new mural.
Councillors will also discuss borrowing $15-million for upgrades to the water treatment plant – that money would be matched by the province. There will also be a vote on whether to hire a consulting firm to review Brandon Transit and create a long-term plan – and they’ll decide on whether to approve a tax offsetting grant for a transitional housing project on the North Hill.
Council will also get an update on the Sportsplex. The arena’s rink has been closed indefintely because of problems with the ice plant.
