Both sides are reportedly heading back to the bargaining table today (Aug 18) to try and reach a deal in the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries strike.
Around 1,400 workers started a province-wide strike last week to push for higher wages to keep up with inflation.
Manitoba Government and General Employees Union (MGEU) president Kyle Ross said in a statement Thursday that a “significant step forward” is expected in the negotiations.
He said employees would rather reach a deal they can vote on rather than having a contract imposed on them through arbitration. The arbitration process could also take up to a year.
The strike has seen many liquor marts closed across Manitoba.
