The union representing 1,400 liquor workers in Manitoba says it’s reached a tentative agreement with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MBLL).
In a media release on Wednesday (Aug 23), the Manitoba Government and General Employees Union (MGEU) said workers will vote on the proposed deal starting at noon Thursday until noon on Sunday. Results of the vote will be released on Sunday afternoon. The MGEU’s bargaining committee is recommending members accept the agreement.
If ratified, the deal would bring an end to a strike that began on July 19th. Details of the tentative agreement have not yet been made public.
Liquor & Lotteries workers have been without a contract since their last collective agreement with MBLL expired in March 2022.

And while one strike is closing to ending – another one is looming.
Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) says it’s working on a plan if there’s a labour disruption involving 1,700 members – also represented by the Manitoba Government and General Employees Union (MGEU). Workers recently rejected MPI’s latest offer.
MPI says the offer includes a global monetary value of up to 17 per cent over 4 years, but the union says that grossly inflates the actual offer by including non-wage items, one-time payments and other increases only some members receive.
Employees and MPI have been in talks since last September.
