Another group of unionized workers in Manitoba could be on the picket lines soon.
UFCW Local 832 says about 4,000 employees at the Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills and Extra Foods have voted 97% in favour of strike action if contract talks fail. The union and Loblaw have been bargaining since June.
The union says after news of Loblaw’s record profits, and president Galen Weston’s compensation package, workers want a deal that recognizes their role in the company’s success.
The current deal expires September 28th.
Elsewhere in the province – about 1,700 Manitoba Public Insurance employees are picketing in a strike that began almost two weeks ago. Wages is the main issue.
