Brandon School Division (BSD) has posted a message on its website about a controversial event planned for Wednesday, September 20th – it’s called the ‘Coast to Coast Walkout’ or the ‘#1 Million March 4 Children’. The event has been promoted for months on various social media sites as ‘a peaceful protest against the push for LGBTQ ideology in schools.’
BSD posted on its website this week that it’s aware of information circulating in the community regarding the protest and said, “this event is not associated with Brandon School Division. Any posters or messaging regarding this topic are not from or endorsed by Brandon School Division. September 20th is a regular instructional day and as such, all students and staff are expected to be in attendance for the full day.”

Meanwhile, the debate over what parents are entitled to know from schools about their child’s gender identity is heating up in Saskatchewan.
The Canadian Press reports that premier Scott Moe “is ready to use the notwithstanding clause to protect a new rule that requires parents permission for transgender and non-binary students to use different names or pronouns at school.”
The clause – a provision in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms – allows governments to pass laws that override certain Charter rights for up to five years.
The Saskatchewan government faces a court challenge over the policy which says it could harm kids who are not ready to share their identity with their parents.
