A move has been made to end the almost three-week old strike by 1,700 employees at Manitoba Public Insurance – both sides have agreed to meet with a conciliator.
Just this Thursday (Sept 14), the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union had presented that idea to the Crown corporation to consider.
In agreeing to conciliation, an MPI spokesperson told the CBC that “conciliation is not required to end the strike. The corporation’s last offer, which included going to binding arbitration on the issue of general wage increases, is still on the table. MGEU accepting this offer could end the strike immediately without any risk to MPI’s 1,700 unionized employees,” the spokesperson added.
The strike began on August, 28th.
