During a Chamber of Commerce breakfast debate in Brandon on Tuesday (Sept 26), Manitoba’s three main political party leaders – the Progressive Conservatives Heather Stefanson, NDP Leader Wab Kinew and the Liberal’s Dougald Lamont promised support for Assiniboine Community College’s (ACC) new Prairie Innovation Centre in the city.
Kinew pledged $60-million, while Stefanson and Lamont both promised to make sure the centre gets built.
The $120-million dollar centre would allow the college to expand its agriculture and food processing program from 300 students to around 800.
The provincial election is October 3rd.

Also on Tuesday, the Conservatives pledged a million dollars a year to expand the Winnipeg Police Service’s property crime unit – and $5-million for post-traumatic stress services for police, firefighters and paramedics.
And the New Democrats and Liberals both promised support for Manitoba’s francophone community. The announcements were similar and included support for French-language education. The NDP also said they would increase spending on French-language daycare spaces.
Tonight (Sept 27), Kinew, Stefanson, and Lamont are to take part in a forum hosted by Doctors Manitoba.
