-The Brandon Wheat Kings take on the Seattle Thunderbirds tonight. It’s Brandon’s 4th game of a 7-game road trip, and so far, they have 2 wins and a loss.
-There are 9 games in the NHL tonight including the 1-and-1 Winnipeg Jets at home to the winless Los Angeles Kings. It’ll be Winnipeg’s first game against former teammate Pierre-Luc Dubois who was dealt to the Kings this past summer in exchange for Gabe Vilardi, Alex Iafallo, Rasmus Kupari and a second-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft.
-The NHL has named Toronto Maple Leafs’ centre Auston Matthews its first star of the opening week of the season. He scored hat-tricks in his first two games of the season, just the second player to do that since the NHL’s first season in 1917-18.
-Just one game tonight in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League – the Swan Valley Stampeders visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Both teams are 1-and-1.
-The Winkler Flyers are the number one team in the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Top 20 Weekly Rankings. The Flyers, who’ve posted seven straight wins and are the only undefeated team in the MJHL, jumped from third to first in the rankings.
-The Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks play Game 2 of the National League Championship Series tonight. The Phillies won 5-3 in yesterday’s opener. Game 3 of the ALCS goes tomorrow with the Texas Rangers up 2-0 on the Houston Astros.
-In the NFL Monday Night game – the Dallas Cowboys improved to 4-and-2 with a 20-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
-Team Canada remains undefeated at the 2023 World Mixed Curling Championship in Scotland. The Canadians beat Lithuania 9-5 on Monday, and are now 4-and-0 in Pool B.
-And flag football is coming to the 2028 summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The IOC’s decision comes after a comprehensive two-year evaluation process. It’s estimated that 20-million players in over 100 countries, including Canada, actively play flag football. 4 other sports were also added – cricket, baseball-softball, lacrosse and squash.
