Premier Wab Kinew is looking to possibly shake things up at Manitoba Public Insurance.
About 1,700 workers have been on strike since late August, and Kinew told reporters before Thursday’s cabinet meeting that the situation is one that demands the most immediate attention.
The CBC reports that “on September 26th, MPI board chair Ward Keith said the corporation had issued its final offer. Under Manitoba’s labour laws, parties involved in a labour dispute can apply for binding arbitration in which a decision is legally binding and enforceable, similar to a court order – if a strike or lockout continues for 60 days, a deadline that is now approaching.”
Manitoba Public Insurance Spokesperson Kristy Rydz also told the CBC, that they “have not been advised of any changes” to MPI’s board.
Kinew is expected to make an announcement about MPI today (Oct 20), and he also hinted yesterday that Manitoba Hydro could also face a shake-up.
