The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating circumstances surrounding the arrest of a female youth by the Brandon Police Service (BPS) that resulted in her sustaining injuries.
A media release says “On Oct. 24, BPS advised the IIU of an incident that occurred on Oct. 16 in Brandon. According to the notification, BPS responded to a call for service in the area of Westaway Bay, where officers arrested the female youth and another male. On Oct. 19, a community member attended BPS to report an officer had assaulted the female youth during the arrest and provided police with a Child and Family Services intake summary of the event.
The IIU civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.
