According to Steinbach RCMP, “on November 9, 2023, at 1:40 pm, RCMP responded to an anonymous bomb threat made against the daycare in La Broquerie. As a precautionary measure, the daycare, along with the adjoining school, were evacuated.
RCMP officers attended to the school and conducted a preliminary search to ensure all staff and students were evacuated. No devices or suspicious items were located. At 2:15 pm, the St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP received a similar complaint in relation to its daycare and school in the community. Both were evacuated.”
A CBC report said two schools in the Franco-Manitoban Division in Winnipeg also received bomb threats.
“Winnipeg police told the CBC they were made aware of threats to École Christine Lespérance and College Louis Riel between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m. Officers searched both schools and determined there were no threats to safety.”
In an email to parents obtained by the CBC, the school division said “Several of our schools received a bomb threat in the form of an e-mail around 1 p.m.” The email said “all students were safe, but some schools were ordered to move to a second location as a precaution.”
The email also said “All schools were also under an emergency plan, which requires keeping everyone indoors and keeping exterior doors locked.”
Police have not yet confirmed if all of the incidents could be connected.
